Making the best of your Amazon affiliate program

There are tons of people out there trying to make a buck from Amazon, since it is such a popular affiliate program and people trust Amazon all around the world. Until recently, I didn’t make money with it at all, until I figured something out. Soon I’m getting my first Amazon.com check and I’m really excited about it!

The tip (which is obvious for many, but it seems not for all) is not to go for cheap products at Amazon. I keep finding websites during my online strolls advertising cheap Amazon books or other products at $4-5 a piece. Well, if you think about it, Amazon’s commission is 4-6%. I woke up to this (known) reality when I got one day a nice commission of $.05 cents for something that a person bought from one of my niche sites. I followed the link to see what product it was purchased (in your Amazon affiliate center you can do that) and wow, the product was selling for peanuts. Well, with 5 cents a commission I will definitely not get rich any time soon…

So I’ve started to replace the products with higher paying ones. I hardly go for anything lower than $80, else it is simply not worth it. I mean if you’re promoting a product, you will input the same effort in a cheap one as for an expensive one.

Of course if you are a very strong affiliate and have tons of Amazon shops and products, then the 5 cents do add up, so this post is not for you. It is for those of us who earn a buck or two by writing articles, product reviews on our site, where Amazon is not our main money maker. It is just so much nicer to get that first Amazon check (minimum threshhold is $100) sooner rather than later, is it not?
