Blog Flipping - I took the plunge and joined their ranks

I’m sure you’ve heard these words by now ‘blog flipping’, ’site flipping’, but if you haven’t, here is the scoop in a nutshell.

Site flipping is basically building up a site (be it a real html site, or a Wordpress blog), setting up the content, preparing it SEO wise, bringing some traffic to it (or not), maybe even monetize it (depending on the age of your site) and selling it. That’s all there is to it really, theoretically at least. Practically, it involves much more than that, particularly when it comes to technical aspects. However, once you get a site or blog up and running, with a nice design (or theme), you’ll post it on one of the site market places, such as Sitepoint, or Digitalpoint, or even Ebay, and sell it…if you know what you’re doing.

I’m a person who gets bored easily doing the same thing over and over again, so in the name of variety, starting up blogs and selling them is more appealing to me than trying to bring one single blog to an expert status. This is why I was toying for a while now with the idea of starting with blog flipping, but I didn’t really know what it takes. My role model in blog flipping is Kate Anderson at Sitepoint. I have to say she is amazing. If you’ve ever watched her auctions, her sites are snatched up for real good money within hours! When I found out that she is about to put up a program to learn the ins and outs of her secrets in blog flipping, I signed up to her mailing list to get notified. And notified I got, just last week.

Needless to say, my money was already set aside for it and I was one of the first few to join her program. She wrote not one, but a bunch of books, each touching on another aspect of site flipping. She seriously didn’t leave anything out. One of my personal favourites was the part explaining how to actually transfer a blog to the new owner. Transferring an html site is quite easy, you just zip up the pages and send them over to the new owner. Piece of cake.

Not so with Wordpress. There are databases involved, and all sorts of other things which border the transfer of these files on nightmare. Now I’ve bought at Warrior Forum a couple of WSO’s on blog flipping, and sadly - although each was good in their own way - they all touched merely on how to set up your blog, bring some traffic to it (blogging 101) and then sell it. But none discussed the heavy techy stuff. Now I’m happy to report that Kate really blew me away with what she wrote in her blog flipping book, with detailed screenshots for each and every step.

So where am I getting with all this? Well this weekend was a long one for us, we had a public holiday, so I had fun working on one of my blogs and putting it up at Sitepoint based on Kate’s directions, blog which I’ve originally set up back in January. The site was up, and within the hour it got a bid of $150 on it. Woohoo to me! Not bad for a couple of hours of having fun with the blog! And particularly when it’s my first flip, which means I have exactly zero feedback at Sitepoint. And we all know how much we all shy away from newbies with 0 feedback…

I have to say, I can’t even call what I did work, because I was really enjoying myself while I was working on that blog. Now how’s that for a fun way to make quick money? Imagine selling one of these blogs every week. Make that $150 per flip, that’s some nice little pocket money to make per month!

I was going through the startup section at Sitepoint and it’s amazing how many blogs and sites go with 0 bids on them until they expire. That’s why I had my stomach all in knots, but I guess Kate’s lessons worked and one of my sites is ready to part from me this weekend. So if you want, check out my listing and let me know what you think! Also check out Kate Anderson’s Flip Mastery course. It took me only a few days after I joined to set up my blog in a way that I am able to flip it for revenue. If it’s one blog flipping product you ever buy, let it be this one! By using her system, your first flip will not only pay for the tuition, but you’ll cash in your next free lunch out for 2 as well.
