Experiment with PLR Material
By Marika on Mar 30, 2009 in My Progress
I have plenty of PLR material, articles, blog posts, even full sites, that are just sitting on my harddrive collecting virtual dust, so I’ve decided to make an experiment with using only PLR stuff. I got a few months ago a generic domain name that I didn’t know how to use afterwards as it was not specific enough, so as I will not be selling this domain (too generic, I guess), I can use it for this particular experiment.
Basically the whole idea of the project will be the following: I will have a main site, with clickable links to sales pages, each selling a different PLR product, yet all sort of related (e.g. all being about green, natural products, etc). The site will also have a blog, which will be consisting of PLR articles on the subjects related to the products I am selling on the main site. Each post will have a link back to the relevant sales page. Once several posts are up, I will re-write some of the articles and use them on article directories for backlinks and traffic. That’s the idea so far. And now for implementation:
This is where I am at so far, based on what I’ve done yesterday, it took me about a good half day to set all this up:
- I put a quick page together with Dreamweaver using one of the templates included with the software.
- I found 6 PLR ready made sites on my harddrive, so I’ve added them each as a subfolder of the domain. Changed the relevant info (name, paypal payment, download links, etc) and uploaded each subfolder to the server using Filezilla.
- Added the links to each sales page on my main site
- Installed Wordpress, a customized theme and the relevant plug-ins on another subfolder called /blog
- Added a header picture to the blog, matching that of the main site
This took me a couple of hours, but I had fun, and it was Sunday, which means I had some time to play.
Today after work I’ve done so far:
- Fixed up the Wordpress theme a bit (deleted extras, modified the footer, added widgets, added pinging sites, etc)
- Added 3 blog posts on 2 subjects, all from PLR material, of course. I think I’ve never added faster a blog post before!
So far it’s been fun, and new for me. I will post back with my progress, as I go along.

Just curious, what ever happen to this experiment? Was it successful?

It was on for a while but then I scraped the project. I just prefer instead to focus on quality stuff for my sites and use PLR only for backlinks to article directories.
