January Payment From Squidoo
By Marika on Jan 12, 2012 in My Progress
The latest payment notice just came through on my Squidoo Dashboard, and I’m happy to say that it just about doubled from the month before.

Of course these are just the earnings directly coming from Squidoo from simply having the lenses created. It does not include my own affiliate sales like Amazon, Clickbank, etc. Those are extra and usually much higher. It does include Amazon affiliates that were made through the Squidoo modules, simply because I haven’t bothered to change those links to my own affiliates, so for those I only get around 4.25% commission.
All you need is some good keywords to start the lenses with and then a bit of backlinks, and you’re in business. And why not, a bit of extra money never hurt anyone before…
While this money is still peanuts compared to other earnings, it pays for my batch of domains that I need to renew now at the beginning of the year.

Well i saw squidoo ranking for some huge keywords like niche websites. I wonder how much they will be making per month?

Yep, I’ve seen lately lots of Squidoo lenses on various keywords as well in Google. To earn money on Squidoo is a two way street: for one, you earn based on your lense’s lensrank (a Tier 1 lens earner per month over $50 even if you’ve never sold anything on that lens). It earns simply by existing. And imagine having a good couple of T1 lenses, now that’s what’s called passive income.
On the other hand, you earn by selling stuff from your lenses, just like with your regular website. And when your lenses earn money and they’re in a good tier (high up in its internal ranking system), well, let’s just say that i personally know a few folks earning more than $2000 only from their lenses.

I know some niches sites make $10k per month and squidoo lenses rank just 3-4 spots below them. This is why i was thinking how profitable it can be? So, sure few 100s or 1000s dollar can be possible. these are crappy niches have tons of searches.

Oh yeah definitely, Squidoo can be very profitable, especially with Amazon type products. Sure, you need to work on the lenses, at least initially to set them up, but then what else is new - you have to work at your own sites as well. One thing I like about the lenses is that I don’t need to promote them as much as a regular website. The authority of Squidoo takes care of that in many cases (of course, proper keyword research has to be done obviously).
I have PR 4 lenses that earn me money directly AND are great PR authority backlinks to my websites. Double-whammy right there.

Hi Marika,
Just wondering, do you target the same keywords on your Squidoo lenses as you do on your own sites? If so, wouldn’t the Squidoo Lenses automatically ranks higher in the serps given its authority?
Thanks
Scott

Personally I target keywords like with the micro niche sites. But it’s mostly because I hate doing backlinking work, so I prefer to do the lens, do just a few backlinks and move on. And yes, that’s one of the ‘known secrets’ of Squidoo vs your own sites, it’s the authority of Squidoo behind the lenses, authority that a new site won’t have for quite some time.

What did you do to double your earings? Were you just creating more lenses or were you foucused on building backlink to existing lenses?

It’s mostly creating more lenses. I’m doing very little backinking, a bit of Blogging Underground, some Squidoo specific bokmarking sites, some regular social bookmarking sites and that’s it really. Haven’t even done an Eza in almost a year…Oh and a bit of Magic Submitter, but mostly the social bookmarking module. So very little backlinking (thank god as I hate doing it!)
